Fellowship Meetings of Williamstown Baptist Church

Friday Night Fellowship Meeting

Every Friday night we meet at Beth Tephillah for food, worship and Bible study. This is the main meeting of the church each week.

Our meal, which starts at 6.00pm, is a sit down feast. Some of us bring various dishes which are shared by all. This is the most important part of the night for us. Then at around 7.00pm - give or take washing the dishes - we begin an informal time of singing and celebration, followed by a Bible study. The studies usually follow a series, depending on what the Lord is giving the pastors at the time. This usually runs to about 8.30pm, with time for prayers for people's needs and healing to end the evening. Come and go when you need to. Some come for the meal and leave, others come after the meal. If you are commited to another church fellowship, but would still like to join us on Friday nights, you are most welcome. We have a number of folk who do this, because they like the teaching, or the fellowship. With their permission we'll usually OK it with their pastor - we keep good relationships between leaders in Hobsons Bay. It's never been a problem.

The studies generally focus on practical issues of living in the Kingdom. For example, in recent times we have seen that the Song of Songs is in the centre of the Bible for a very good reason - it describes the whole purpose of our existence as one of a relationship of intimacy and love with God. Then we looked at living faithfully in difficult times and circumstances as illustrated in Peter's letters. This year we are exploring practical issues of how to have a close and personal walk with Jesus, including finding out who we are, and how God has gifted us to relate to him and the world.

Time with God

On Wednesday nights some of us come together, with no program, and with only one agenda - to encounter God. We do whatever happens on the night - sing, read, pray, chat, drink coffee! This is one of our times to exercise gifts, and to gain God's guidance for the times ahead.

Open House on Sunday

Every Sunday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm, Beth Tephillah is open. Again there is no program. People can come and do whatever they like, alone or with others. We have video, audio and computer facilities for study or relaxing. There is a growing library of books, videos, tapes and CDs. Find a room to be quiet in, gather with others for chat, chess or chow, spend time in the garden with Jesus, watch the cricket on TV - whatever you need to do on the day! Refreshments and lunch are always available.

On the first Sunday of the month, at 2.30pm, we show a video, with opportunity for discussion afterwards. These are mainstream (usually non-Christian) videos with a message.

The only rule is that we respect each another's need for space or company at different times. If deep problems arise then an appointment for prayer ministry or counselling can be arranged, but it won't be on Sunday. On Sunday we rest with Jesus.

Ocassional Afternoon Teas

Ocassionally on a weekday afternoon we have an afternoon tea. We may have a visiting speaker - perhaps a missionary on furlough, or someone who has a story to tell or information to pass on, or we may just enjoy getting to know each other an having a chat. These times are especially popular with the older residents around the area, but younger folk are equally welcome. Some of our speakers have been working in Kazakstan, Nepal and Central Australia, while others have reported on their travels to interseting places, or shown us how we can develop fascinating kraft skills.

Know Your Bible

Two active KYB groups meet fortnightly either at Beth Tephillah or in one of the ladies homes. They have a great time studying the Bible together and sharing their discoveries. Visit the KYB Page for more information.

Other Meetings

There are other meetings at various times. For example, Hobsons Bay Pastors meet at Beth Tephillah monthly for lunch, Hobsons Bay Churches meet at Beth Tephillah to plan combined churches events, and Hobsons Bay Intercessors meet at Beth Tephillah monthly to pray for the city, the churches, and the coming of the Kingdom of God in Hobsons Bay. Visit the website links for more information about these groups.

Prayer Ministry Appointments and Training Courses

The other main activities at Beth Tephillah are appointments for prayer ministry, and training courses. People come to be ministered to by our trained staff, seeking healing for any kind of spiritual, emotional, psychological, physical or relational problem. Details can be found on the Prayer Ministry Page.

Also, regular training courses are often for those who want to be more effective in thier Christian lives. This year (2005) we are running courses on Saturdays, covering Hearing God's Voice; Intercession and Spiritual Warfare; and Prayer Ministry. See the Training Courses Page for more information.
