Intercession

One of the most powerful ministries Jesus has established in this age is that of intercession. For many people, the word "intercession" conjures up images of little od ladies sitting around in a church prayer meeting, praying around the world and back again. Wonderful things come from such faithful prayer, but the world of intercession is far larger than that. It involves direct engagement in the spiritual battle that is raging in the earth and the heavens, and which is intensifying as the end of the age draws nearer.

There are three ways in which we are involved in intercession at Beth Tephillah: our Time with God meetings on Wednesday nights, Hobsons Bay Intercessors, and Training Courses.

In 1993 Diana and I were part of a group of 40 people that the Lord called together from all over Melbourne, to pray for the YWAM Evangelism Initiative.and the upcoming YWAM Conference with Loren Cunningham. We spent three days together in prayer, and some wonderful things happened which foreshadowed events the Lord would bring about a year later later in January 1994, and which became known as the Torronto Blessing that spread right around the world. I remember at the time the Lord clearly said to me, as the leaders rolled on the floor convulsed in laughter, "I want you to experience this now so that when I move later you will be able to reassure people that it really is me!" This meeting was also the catalyst for the formation of Intercessors for Melbourne. Through our years as part of IFM the Lord taught us much about how to (and how not to) pray for our city. The formation of Intercessors for Hobsons Bay, now Hobsons Bay Intercessors, was one result of that experience.

Hobsons Bay Intercessors meet at Beth Tephillah monthly to pray for the city, the churches, and the coming of the Kingdom of God in Hobsons Bay. Visit the website links for more information about these groups.

At Beth Tephillah we run regular training courses for those who want to be more effective in thier Christian lives. This year (2005) we are running three courses on Saturdays, which would be of great interest to intercessors.
