Following the 1968 Centenary

The work involved in repairing the long neglected buildings, decorating, preparing music and choirs, engaging a visiting speaker, preparing for communal meals, and all the other details of a major celebration, had so exhausted the relatively small group of church members and their families, that all anyone wanted to do following the celbration was rest!

Was it worth it? Yes. Would we do it again? Most certainly not. Not because it was not an enjoyable task, nor because of the response of visitors, which was generally enthusiastic approval of what had been achieved. No, the reason would be that although it might have been the right thing to do in the culture of 1968, it is most definitely not appropriate for the time that I am writing this in April 2011. But more of that in later years.
