History of Williamstown Baptist Church 1868 to 1968
Page 1: Introduction

This historical record of the first one hundred years of the Williamstown Baptist Church has been written with the object of providing a more detailed tabulation of events than has been previously attempted.

I am indebted to the many interested people who so generously provided historical material for this record. It is interesting to note that this one hundred years, 1868-1968 has embraced the most momentous leap for-ward in both knowledge and technical achievement in the history of the world. The beginning of the hundred years sees the use of the horse and carriage and sailing ships for transport, and candies and gas for heat and illumination, populations decimated by plagues and limited wars.

The year 1968 is the conclusion of 100 years in which manned space satellites, aeroplanes, motor vehicles, ships without sail, atomic energy utilisation, radio electrical energy and television just to mention a few, have all become accepted parts of our lives. The world around us is changing and accumulating knowledge at an ever increasing rate. Over this period of 100 years the Christian Church has grown-we now face a future-in a young land with much to offer. The Christian Church has been commissioned to carry on and equip itself for all its tasks in a future full of promise. We must not be backward in trying to achieve the impossible, no matter how enormous the task, in order to meet our obligations and fulfill our Holy Commission.

J. M. W.
